*female freedom in Iran vs. Pakistan – Majrane and her mom and grandma live modern lives, Malala’s mom can’t read

Marijane spoke out for all women to not change the lengths of the women’s clothing, not having anymore cover ups to there body and to not change the style.

1. when she was younger her grandmother told her to be careful with guys because they can be traders Marjane had bad experiences with her boyfriends. they would cheat on her.
2.as Marjane grows up, she witnesses first how the new Iran, now ruled by Islamic fundamentalist,has become a repressive tyranny on its own.

haroon tells malala that he loves her, malala does not like it so she tells her dad and her dad speaks with him from there he never saw him again. malala got really upset.

1. Marji was a girl who was in favor of revenge however, Malala wasn’t even after she got shot revenge never came across her mind.
2. Both Marjane and Malala at some point were force to cover themselves which neither of them enjoyed doing.

1.As a young child, Marjane would already tell her relatives that she would grow up to be a prophet. Even though she is little, her character shows that she is very smart and her actions show it. She acts older than her age and comprehends every discussion that the adults have. Like Malala, she was also very mature for her age.
2.The grocery scene in the film where Marjane’s mother was approached by a man because she wasn’t wearing her veil (the right way). He calls her a women and she defends herself by saying she is a “ma’am”. The man gives her a scary look and proclaims that he kills women just like her. this reminded me of the scene in the Malala book where Malala is accompanied by her mother at the store and a man approaches them as well but Malala’s mom defends herself as the women she is.

Marjane didn’t bother to finish her education and she got married to a man but later on she is unsatisfied about her marriage. Which she had many opportunities to attend school , unlike Malala she didn’t have that opportunity because the Taliban would bomb schools.

Malala had to hide her books from them. If the Taliban found out that girls who attended to school they would throw acid on their faces.

Marji was being told it was wrong to dress “modernized” – she wore nike sneakers , leather jacket, and listen to western music,
W\hen people were extremely sick they weren’t allowed to leave the country to get treated & they were told that if God wanted to better them it will happen upon his will
Malala- watched ugly betty, twilight, listen to Justin Bieber music , she didn’t wear her burqa , she bought her clothes at the bizzar.
In Pakistan if people got sick they had to drive hours away from their town to get treated

-Malala had to fight for her education, and Marji didn’t care about her education.
-Even though Marji is not allowed to do many things like dressing punk she likes the music anyways like a normal girl teenager this relates to Malala liking Justin Bieber.

•Malalas father and Marjane father are alike because they both want their daughters to be safe and get an education.
•I noticed that Pakistan doesn’t allow girls to go to school at all but in Iran they did not stop the girls from going to school. Malala can get in trouble for going to school and Marjane does not get stopped from police to go to school.

In the movie I believe the people wanted to go against democracy because all they wanted is film and stand up for freedom of there country and in the book Malala actually Malala spoke up by herself and was shot in the head.

Marjanes personality is described as an outspoken person and a curious girl who likes to ask questions. She is similar to Malala in that regard.
Marjane was ashamed from her nationality from Iran unlike Malala she had pride on her nationality.

Malala always was proud of who she was and where she came from while marjane was ashamed to be Iranian.
Malala is a girl who loves education and wants to just be able to go to school while marjane is smart and just blows off school to do other things of less importance.

She went to a party and the police came and the girls changed into pajamas and the guys were hiding. The police ran after the men and they all jumped to get away, but one didn’t make it and fell of the roof.
In Malala’s book she talks about girls who aren’t aloud to go to school, so instead of men being attacked its the girls.

Marjane was living in the time where Iran was starting to be very strict about the dress code for women. First they started to tell women how to dress and what to wear, which they wanted to do to limit their rights.They were also told how to act and how to raise a family. This relates to Malala because they were told that women couldn’t go out and shop for clothes and had to be wearing their headbands. So both women rights are being taken over.
